Newborn Photoshoot in Chester
Natural, beautiful newborn photography for your baby's first days
Those first days with your baby are full of tiny details that somehow change almost overnight. The little fingers, sleepy stretches, the way they curl up in your arms, and that feeling of having your new baby finally home.
As a newborn photographer in Chester, I create relaxed newborn photography sessions designed to capture those early days in a way that feels beautiful, natural and personal to your family.
My studio in Chester offers two different styles of newborn photography. You can choose a Natural Newborn Session, with soft neutral tones and a simple, timeless look, or a Fine Art Newborn Session if you would like more styling, colour and variety.
There is no right or wrong choice — it simply depends on the kind of photographs you love.
Photography styles
Natural Newborn Photography
Soft • Simple • Timeless
My Natural Newborn Sessions have become a favourite with parents who love photographs that are calm, elegant and never feel over-styled.
The focus is very much on your baby. I use soft neutral backgrounds, natural textures and simple wraps to create a beautiful, consistent look throughout your photographs.
Rather than filling the session with lots of props and different setups, we keep things simple and concentrate on your baby's little features, expressions and natural movements.
I will create a mixture of close-up portraits, full-body photographs and beautifully simple images showing all those tiny details you will want to remember.
Parents and siblings can also be included in my full newborn sessions, so alongside your baby's individual portraits, we can create photographs showing the connection between you and your new little family.

Fine Art Newborn Photography
Creative • Styled • More Variety
If you love my more creative photography, you can choose a Fine Art Newborn Session.
This is my original, more styled approach to newborn photography and gives us much more freedom to create different looks throughout your session.
We can use a wider selection of backgrounds, colours, wraps, outfits, textures, props and carefully styled setups. This gives you a much more varied gallery, with each setup created to complement your baby.
Fine Art sessions take longer because there is more preparation, styling and changing of setups involved. They are ideal if you would like a larger variety of photographs and enjoy a more artistic style.

When should I book my newborn photography session?
I recommend getting in touch during your pregnancy, ideally once you know your approximate due date.
Your session can then be planned around your expected arrival, but don't worry if your baby has already arrived. If I have availability, I am always happy to see if we can arrange a session for you.
Newborns change so quickly, which is why these early weeks are such a lovely time to have them photographed. However, there is no need to worry about getting the exact "perfect" day. Every baby is different, and I will work with your little one rather than expecting them to fit into a strict schedule.

What happens during your newborn session?
When you arrive at my Chester studio, there is no need to rush.
We take our time and let your baby settle. Feeding, cuddles, changing and little breaks are all completely normal parts of a newborn session.
I will guide you throughout the photography, so you don't need to know how to pose or what to do.
My aim is for the whole experience to feel calm and relaxed rather than like you have to perform for the camera.
Depending on the style you choose, we will work through the different setups while keeping your baby's comfort at the centre of the session.

What should my baby wear?
For my Natural Newborn Sessions, babies are usually photographed wrapped simply in soft, neutral fabrics. This keeps the photographs timeless and allows the focus to stay on your baby.
For Fine Art sessions, we have more options available, including different wraps, outfits, textures and styling.
I can guide you on everything before your session so you don't need to arrive with a suitcase full of baby clothes!

Can parents and siblings be photographed too?
Absolutely.
For my full newborn photography experience, parents and siblings are welcome to join in. These photographs are often some of the most meaningful images from the entire session — especially when you look back at them years later.
If you prefer to have photographs of your baby only, that's completely fine too.
I will always follow what feels comfortable for your family.

Your newborn photographs
Your photographs are not simply files on a screen.
These are the images you will look back at when your baby is no longer tiny, when you suddenly realise how much they have changed, and one day when they are grown up themselves.
I offer professionally printed photographs and beautiful finished artwork as well as digital images, so you can choose the way you would like to keep your memories.

Newborn Photography FAQs

How old should my baby be for a newborn session?
Most newborn sessions take place during the first few weeks, but every baby is different. If your baby is older, don't automatically assume it is too late — get in touch and we can discuss what would work best.

What if my baby doesn't sleep?
Don't worry. A newborn session doesn't depend on your baby sleeping the whole time. We can photograph awake moments, little expressions, stretches and cuddles too.

Do I need to bring props?
No. I provide the wraps and styling needed for the session. If there is something special you would like to include, just let me know beforehand.

Can we have family photographs?
Yes, family and sibling photographs can be included in the full newborn experience.

Where is your newborn studio?

My studio is based in Chester, Cheshire, and I welcome families travelling from Chester, Wirral, Liverpool, North Wales and the surrounding areas.

Do you offer maternity photography too?
Yes. I also offer maternity photography in Chester, creating beautiful pregnancy portraits before your baby's arrival. Many families choose to document both stages — pregnancy and those first precious days with their newborn.
