As a birthday photographer in Chester, I believe every birthday is worth celebrating — not just the first one. Whether you are planning your baby’s first birthday, a fun cake smash, a birthday photoshoot for an older child, or even a milestone birthday for yourself, I can create a session around you and your ideas.
Birthday photography has changed over the years, and many families are now choosing a more natural, relaxed and timeless style. At Serenade Photography, I offer two different birthday photography styles, so you can choose the look and experience that feels right for you.
Birthday Photography Session Pricing
Birthday Portrait Session – £50 Session Fee
Your £40 session fee secures your newborn photography experience in our Chester studio.
It includes up to a 2-hour natural style session, use of our beautiful wraps, props and outfits, family and sibling portraits if desired, and a personal 30 minutes viewing appointment straight after your session to choose your favourite images.
A complimentary mounted 9x6 print with your first order.
The session fee does not include digital images or products, and there is no obligation to purchase after your session.

Birthday Photography Styles at Serenade Photography Chester
Natural Birthday Photography Session
Natural • Relaxed • Timeless
My Natural Birthday Session is perfect if you love simple, beautiful photographs with a soft and timeless feel. These sessions are shorter and more relaxed, using a neutral background, beautiful natural-looking light and minimal styling.
For a child's birthday, we can add a few small decorations, balloons or other details in neutral tones to make the photographs feel special without taking the focus away from your child.
For a first birthday or cake smash, the cake can be a lovely part of the session. I have a beautiful realistic-looking faux cake available in the studio, which gives you the cake-smash look without the mess of a real cake.
If you would like your little one to really get stuck into a real cake, we can arrange one for an additional £30, or you are welcome to bring your own.
And it doesn't have to be cake! If you would like to make the session more personal or fun, we can use cupcakes, doughnuts, fruit or anything else you can think of. I’m always happy to work with your ideas.
You can also add a bubble bath session with bubbles and balloons. This is a lovely way to finish a first birthday or cake smash session and creates beautiful, playful photographs while keeping the overall look soft and timeless.

Fine Art Birthday Photography Session
Creative • Colourful • Artistic
If you love something more colourful, vibrant and playful for your little one's birthday, you can choose my Fine Art Birthday Session.
This is especially popular for first birthday and cake smash photography, where we can create a fun, colourful setup designed especially for your little one.
Your Fine Art session can include different backdrops, colours, props, decorations and styling to create a beautiful birthday scene. If you would like to add a balloon garland or other special decorations, these can also be arranged as part of the setup.
The Fine Art style is available for an additional £75 on top of the regular session fee. This covers the extra preparation and time involved in creating the setup, including preparing different backgrounds and decorations, setting everything up before your session and cleaning and changing the studio afterwards.
For cake smash sessions, the cake is included within the £75 Fine Art styling fee. So if you choose the Fine Art cake smash option, there is no separate cake charge.
The aim is to create something fun and colourful that feels special to your child's personality and gives you a birthday gallery full of beautiful, playful memories.
Birthday photography for every age
Birthday photography isn't just for babies! Whether you are celebrating your little one's first birthday, your child's next milestone, a teenager's birthday or a special 20th, 30th, 40th, 50th or even 70th birthday, we can create a session to make it feel special.
In the studio, we also have a giant cake prop that can be used for children and adults of different ages. They can sit on it, climb around it and have a little fun while we capture some playful birthday portraits.
We can also add large balloons with their age, creating a fun and personalised way to celebrate another year.
It doesn't have to be a traditional cake smash. Sometimes it's simply about having fun, celebrating their personality and creating photographs that show exactly who they are at that age.
Whether you prefer the simple, natural style or something more colourful and creative, we can create a birthday photoshoot that is personal to you and your family — and gives you photographs you'll love looking back on for years to come.
If you prefer printed photographs rather than digital files, you also have the option to purchase individual images from the selection below.
There is no minimum spend or requirement to purchase a collection — you can simply choose the printed photographs that you love most.
